Spain's temporary border controls are expiring today, but travelers shouldn't expect a smooth experience at the border just yet. The EU's Entry-Exit System (EES)—a new digital registration tool for non-EU visitors—is still causing delays of up to 4 hours at some airports.

The Entry-Exit System is still causing delays of up to 4 hours at some airports.

If you're traveling to Spain or other EU countries, arrive at the airport earlier than usual. The EES requires biometric data (fingerprints and photos) from all non-EU travelers entering the Schengen area, and the system is still working through capacity issues. EU citizens move through a separate lane, but non-EU passport holders should expect to spend extra time in immigration queues. Check your airline's recommendations and plan accordingly.
