A new travel authorization system is coming to the EU—here's what it means for your trips and how to prepare.
The European Union is rolling out ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System), a new digital travel authorization for visa-exempt travelers entering the Schengen zone. If you're a US, UK, Canadian, or other visa-exempt national, you'll need to register and get approval before traveling to most EU countries.
ETIAS is similar to the US ESTA or Canada's eTA. You'll fill out an online form with personal, passport, and travel details, pay a small fee (around €7), and receive approval or denial. The system is designed to screen travelers before they arrive at the border.
