UK enforces digital travel permission

A new digital system replaces traditional visa stamps for many travelers—here's what you need to know before your next trip.

The UK has rolled out a digital permission to travel system, replacing physical visa stamps for many visitors and short-term travelers. If you're traveling to the UK, you may no longer receive a stamp in your passport.

Instead, your permission to enter and stay is recorded digitally and linked to your passport number or travel document. This affects tourists, business visitors, and short-stay visa holders. The system is designed to speed up border processing and reduce paperwork.

UK visa stamps are being replaced by digital records linked to your passport number.

Before you travel to the UK, check the Home Office website to confirm whether your visa type is affected. If you're applying for a UK visa, ask your sponsor or the visa center whether you'll receive a physical document or a digital record. Keep your passport number and any reference numbers safe—you may need them to prove your status at the border or to employers.
