Thailand digital nomad visa 2026: new rules for long-stay remote work

Thailand has updated its digital nomad visa with new eligibility rules and extended residency benefits for remote workers.

Thailand has introduced updated rules for its digital nomad visa in 2026, making it easier for remote workers to secure longer stays. The new framework expands eligibility and simplifies the application process, though specific income thresholds and documentation requirements vary by visa type.

Thailand offers several long-stay options for remote workers: the DTV (Digital Nomad Visa), which typically allows 180 days, and the ED visa (Education), which can lead to multi-year residency if you're studying Thai language or martial arts. The DTV requires proof of income or savings—usually around $2,000–$2,500 per month—and a clean criminal record.

Thailand's digital nomad visa now offers clearer pathways for remote workers seeking 180-day stays.

Apply at a Thai embassy or consulate in your home country or a neighboring country; you cannot apply inside Thailand. Gather your documents (passport, bank statements, employment letter) well in advance. Once approved, you'll receive a single-entry visa and must report to Thai immigration within 90 days. If you plan to stay longer than one year, explore the ED visa or retirement visa (age 50+) as alternatives.
