Japan's Digital Nomad Visa Attracts Property Investment

Japan's nomad visa boom is drawing real estate investors, signaling strong demand for longer-term remote work stays in the country.

Japan's digital nomad visa program is gaining traction with both remote workers and property investors. A major investment firm recently announced a six-property Tokyo deal specifically targeting the nomad visa market, betting that demand for longer stays will continue to climb.

Japan's nomad visa allows remote workers to stay for up to one year, renewable. The visa requires proof of stable income (typically around $2,500–$3,000 per month) and a clean background check. Unlike many European nomad visas, Japan's doesn't impose high taxes on foreign-earned income, making it attractive for long-term stayers.

Japan's nomad visa is attracting serious investment—a sign it's becoming a real long-term option.

If you're considering Japan, the nomad visa is a solid entry point. You'll need to demonstrate income from a non-Japanese employer or client, arrange accommodation (which the property market is now making easier), and handle the application through a Japanese embassy or consulate. The cost of living in Tokyo is higher than Southeast Asia but lower than major US or European cities, and the visa gives you stability to actually settle in rather than constantly moving.
